Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is off before beginning installation.
  2. Remove the old trim tab anode by loosening and removing the existing bolts and washers.
  3. Clean the mounting surface on the trim tab to ensure proper metal-to-metal contact for galvanic protection.
  4. Position the new trim tab anode on the mounting surface, aligning the bolt holes.
  5. Insert the provided washers and bolts, then tighten securely but do not overtighten to avoid thread damage.
  6. Reconnect the battery and perform a visual inspection to confirm secure installation.
  7. Inspect the anode regularly for corrosion; replace when 50% or more of the material has eroded.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How often should I replace the trim tab anode?

Inspect the anode every 3–6 months depending on water conditions. Replace when approximately 50% of the anode material has corroded to maintain effective galvanic protection.

Will this anode fit my specific Yamaha model year?

This trim tab anode is compatible with Yamaha outboards from 40HP to 130HP across multiple model years. Verify your engine's part number against the Part Number Matrix to confirm fitment.

Can I use this anode in both freshwater and saltwater?

Yes, aluminum alloy anodes are suitable for both freshwater and saltwater environments. They provide reliable sacrificial protection across varying salinity levels.

What are signs that my trim tab anode needs replacement?

Visible erosion, pitting, or loss of more than half the anode's original material indicates it's time to replace. Increased corrosion on the trim tab itself may also signal a depleted anode.

Do I need to apply any coating or paint to the anode?

No. The anode must remain bare metal to function properly. Paint or coatings will prevent galvanic protection and render the anode ineffective.

Why is proper metal-to-metal contact important during installation?

Direct contact between the anode and the trim tab surface ensures effective electrical conductivity, which is essential for the sacrificial anode to protect against corrosion.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
