Product Details

This aftermarket trim tab skeg anode is designed for selected Yamaha 150–200 HP counter-rotating outboards. It replaces Yamaha OEM references 6K1-45371-01-00 and 6K1-45371-02-00. Confirm the OEM number, counter-rotating lower-unit configuration, model, year and mounting arrangement before ordering.

The anode provides sacrificial corrosion protection for compatible lower-unit components in marine use. Its trim-tab design also serves as a small adjustable rudder that can help counteract propeller torque when correctly positioned.

  • Direct bolt-on replacement for compatible applications.
  • Designed for counter-rotating, left-hand-propeller lower units.
  • Zinc alloy construction for sacrificial protection in saltwater applications.
  • Aftermarket replacement; not manufactured by Yamaha.

Installation Notes

  1. Turn off the engine and tilt the outboard into a secure working position.
  2. Locate the existing trim tab anode beneath the anti-cavitation plate.
  3. Remove the mounting bolt and detach the worn anode.
  4. Clean the mounting surface so the replacement can make a good electrical connection.
  5. Position the replacement anode and install suitable mounting hardware.
  6. Tighten the hardware to the engine manufacturer's specified torque. Do not overtighten.
  7. After installation, confirm that the anode is secure and correctly aligned for the boat and lower-unit configuration.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

Is this anode for standard or counter-rotation engines?

This replacement is intended for Yamaha counter-rotating, left-hand-propeller applications. It should not be used on a standard right-hand-rotation lower unit unless the original part number and configuration confirm compatibility.

Is mounting hardware included?

No. The mounting bolt is not included. Reuse the original hardware only when it is in good condition and matches the required size and specification, or obtain suitable replacement hardware separately.

When should the anode be replaced?

Inspect the anode regularly and replace it when it is substantially eroded, heavily pitted or no longer provides adequate material for sacrificial protection. Operating environment and water chemistry affect service life.

Which anode material should I use?

Zinc is commonly used for saltwater applications. Aluminum may be used in saltwater or brackish water, while magnesium is generally intended for freshwater. Select the material appropriate for your operating environment and the engine manufacturer's recommendation.

Why is my boat pulling to one side?

The trim tab anode can also help counteract propeller torque. A worn, incorrectly positioned or improperly adjusted anode may contribute to steering pull. Inspect the anode and follow the engine manufacturer's adjustment guidance.

Can I paint the anode?

No. Do not paint the active anode surface. Paint can insulate the anode from the water and prevent it from providing sacrificial corrosion protection.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement associated with Yamaha OEM references 6K1-45371-01-00 and 6K1-45371-02-00. Verify the original part number and physical configuration before ordering.

Safety and Important Information

  • Confirm the OEM part number, model, year, stroke, serial range and counter-rotation configuration before purchase.
  • Compare the replacement with the original anode, including its mounting interface and overall shape.
  • Do not rely on horsepower alone to establish fitment.
  • Use appropriate lifting, securing and eye-protection practices during installation.
  • Professional installation is recommended when the correct mounting arrangement or torque specification is uncertain.
