Installation Notes
- Turn off the engine, let it cool, and close the raw water intake valve (seacock).
- Place a catch pan and absorbent pads under the pump to manage spills.
- Remove the screws securing the pump's cover plate.
- Carefully pry off the cover. If it's stuck, tap the side gently; do not bend it.
- Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller's blades before removal.
- Remove the old impeller using impeller pullers or two pairs of pliers.
- Clean all residue from the pump housing interior and the cover plate sealing surface.
- Lubricate the new impeller and housing interior with a water-based marine lubricant or dish soap.
- Install the new impeller with a twisting motion, ensuring the blades bend in the correct direction noted in step 5.
- Place the new gasket or O-ring onto the clean cover plate.
- Reinstall the cover plate and tighten the screws evenly in a criss-cross pattern to ensure a uniform seal. Do not overtighten.
- Open the seacock, start the engine, and immediately verify there are no leaks and that water is flowing from the exhaust outlet.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if my impeller is failing and needs replacement?
Common signs of a worn or damaged impeller include a sudden increase in engine operating temperature, reduced water flow from the exhaust outlet, and visible cracks, tears, or stiffness in the impeller blades during a visual inspection. It's recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1-2 seasons as preventative maintenance.
Do I need a special tool for installation?
While not strictly necessary, an impeller puller tool is highly recommended. It makes removing the old, often rigid impeller much easier and reduces the risk of damaging the pump housing. If a puller is not available, you can carefully use two pairs of pliers to grip and pull the old impeller out.
What is the difference between Neoprene and Nitrile impellers?
This impeller is made from a high-quality neoprene compound, which is the standard material for raw water and engine cooling applications. Nitrile impellers are designed for oil and diesel-fuel pumping and are not suitable for cooling systems unless explicitly specified by the pump manufacturer.
My engine isn't listed, but my part number is. Will this kit fit?
If your existing impeller's part number is listed in our Part Number Matrix, it is very likely a correct match. To be certain, please compare the dimensions (Diameter, Width, Shaft) listed in our Technical Specs against your old part before ordering.
What happens if I install the impeller with the blades bent in the wrong direction?
The pump's efficiency will be drastically reduced, and it may fail to prime or pump water, leading to rapid engine overheating. Always note the direction of the old impeller's blades before removing it. The blades should curve opposite the direction of the pump's rotation.
Is this an OEM part or an aftermarket replacement?
This is a high-quality aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component. It is engineered to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications for fit, material, and performance and is produced in an ISO 9002 certified facility.
How fast is shipping and what does it cost?
We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free to most regions, with expedited options available at checkout where applicable.
What is the warranty and return policy?
This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. Should an issue arise, contact our support team with your order details. Unused items in their original condition can be returned within our standard return window. Please see our policy page or contact us for instructions.
