What’s in the Box

  • 1 × aftermarket water pump impeller

The listing is for the impeller only. Check the condition and required specification of the water pump key, housing, gaskets, and seals before beginning the repair; replace worn related components as needed.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and place the outboard in neutral.
  2. Remove the lower unit according to the engine manufacturer’s service procedure.
  3. Remove the water pump cover to access the old impeller.
  4. Note the original impeller blade direction and remove the old impeller.
  5. Inspect the key, pump housing, plate, gaskets, and seals. Replace worn or damaged components before reassembly.
  6. Clean the pump surfaces and install the replacement impeller with the existing or correctly specified key.
  7. Rotate the driveshaft in the correct direction while seating the impeller blades into the pump housing.
  8. Reinstall the pump cover and lower unit, tightening fasteners according to the engine manufacturer’s specifications.
  9. Run the engine only with an appropriate water supply and verify a strong tell-tale stream and normal cooling operation.

Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with outboard lower-unit service procedures.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if my impeller needs replacing?

Common signs include a weak or missing tell-tale stream, overheating warnings, or reduced cooling performance, especially at idle. A damaged impeller may also have cracked, stiff, missing, or permanently deformed blades.

How often should an outboard impeller be replaced?

Inspect the impeller during regular service and replace it according to the engine manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and the conditions in which the boat operates. Saltwater, sand, silt, long storage periods, and frequent use can accelerate wear.

Will this fit every Evinrude or Johnson 85–125 HP engine?

No. Fitment is limited to the listed horsepower, stroke, and model-year applications. Match the complete engine model and the old impeller or reference number before purchase. Do not rely on horsepower alone.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement impeller. Evinrude, Johnson, OMC, Sierra, CEF, Mallory, GLM, and SEI references are provided only for application and cross-reference purposes.

Does the package include the key or water-pump gaskets?

The package contains one impeller. The key, housing, gaskets, and seals should be verified and sourced separately unless your specific order or product option states otherwise.

Safety & Important Information

  • Confirm the exact brand, horsepower, stroke, model, and year before ordering.
  • Compare the replacement impeller with the original part and verify the reference number and dimensions before installation.
  • Do not operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Replace damaged pump components and sealing parts before returning the engine to service.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an original OEM component.
