Installation Notes

Follow your outboard's service manual for detailed instructions. A general replacement guide is below:

1. Disconnect the spark plug wires and shift the engine into neutral.
2. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear case drain and vent screws to drain the gear lube.
3. Remove the bolts connecting the lower unit (gear case) to the engine's upper section.
4. Carefully lower and remove the gear case assembly. The driveshaft will disengage from the powerhead.
5. Unscrew and remove the water pump housing cover.
6. Note the rotational direction of the existing impeller blades before sliding it off the driveshaft. Remove the drive key.
7. Clean the housing and wear plate surfaces of any old gasket material or debris.
8. Install the new gasket, wear plate, and drive key. Lightly grease the driveshaft.
9. Slide the new impeller onto the shaft while turning it in the correct rotational direction (typically clockwise) to seat the blades.
10. Apply a thin layer of marine grease or soap to the inside of the pump housing and reinstall it.
11. Reattach the gear case to the upper unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned.
12. Reinstall all bolts, refill the gear case with fresh lube, and reconnect spark plug wires before testing.
