Installation Notes
A safe, generic, model-agnostic installation sequence is as follows:
- Disconnect the spark plug leads and the battery to prevent accidental starting.
- Place the outboard gear shift into neutral.
- Locate and remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine leg.
- Carefully separate the lower unit from the driveshaft housing. The driveshaft will come out with it.
- Unbolt and lift the water pump housing to expose the old impeller.
- Remove the old impeller and the woodruff key from the driveshaft. Clean any debris from the housing.
- Install the new woodruff key and slide the new impeller onto the shaft, rotating it in the direction of engine operation to seat the blades.
- Re-install the water pump housing, ensuring a proper seal.
- Re-attach the lower unit to the engine, aligning the driveshaft splines and water tube. Secure with bolts.
- Reconnect the battery and spark plugs, and test operation in water, ensuring a steady stream from the tell-tale outlet.
