Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm this impeller fits my specific engine?
Compare your engine brand, exact model, horsepower, and year with the compatibility table. Then compare the impeller reference from your existing part or service manual with the listed references, including 396809, 0396809, 777214, 0777214, or 0777828. The impeller dimensions and keyed-drive configuration should also match.
What are common signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include weak or intermittent water flow from the tell-tale outlet, an overheating alarm, steam from the exhaust, or no visible cooling-water discharge. Stop operating the engine if overheating occurs and inspect the cooling system.
How often should an outboard impeller be replaced?
Replacement intervals depend on engine use, storage, water conditions, and the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Replace the impeller when inspection shows wear, cracking, deformation, hardening, or reduced water flow, and follow the service interval for your specific engine.
Is the included drive key important?
Yes. The drive key locks the impeller to the driveshaft so the impeller rotates with the shaft and pumps cooling water. Confirm that the key is seated correctly before reinstalling the pump housing.
Can I install this impeller myself?
Installation requires removal and reinstallation of the lower unit and may require shift-linkage adjustment. DIY installation is possible for an experienced technician with the correct tools and service information, but professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with outboard lower-unit service.
Is this an OEM part?
No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement impeller. The listed OEM and aftermarket numbers are reference numbers used for compatibility identification.
Shipping speed and cost?
Shipping options, delivery estimates, and applicable costs are shown at checkout based on the destination and selected service.
Warranty and returns?
Warranty and return eligibility are subject to the applicable store policy. Contact customer support with your order details if you need assistance.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the exact engine model, year, horsepower, and impeller reference before ordering.
- Confirm the original impeller dimensions and keyed-drive configuration before installation.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
- Do not operate an outboard with inadequate cooling-water flow or an overheating warning.
- Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit removal or shift-linkage adjustment is required.
