Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and remove the negative terminal first.
- Place a drain pan under the gearcase and remove the drain/fill screws to empty the gear oil.
- Unbolt and carefully lower the gearcase (lower unit) from the engine's midsection.
- Remove the water pump housing bolts and lift the housing to expose the impeller.
- Take note of the old impeller's vane orientation before removing it, along with the gaskets, plates, and key.
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the housing and base plate, removing any old gasket material or debris.
- Install the new components from the kit in the reverse order of removal. Lightly grease the new impeller and insert cup.
- Ensure the impeller vanes are curved in the correct direction (opposite of driveshaft rotation).
- Tighten the housing bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the water tube and shift shaft align correctly.
- Refill the gearcase with fresh marine gear oil until it flows from the upper vent hole.
- Reconnect the battery and test the engine in water, confirming a strong telltale stream.
