What’s in the Box

  • 1 × Water pump impeller

The package does not include a separate key, gasket, housing, cover or complete water-pump repair kit unless those items are specifically listed with the order.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the spark-plug wires, remove the ignition key where applicable and secure the propeller.
  2. Place a drain pan under the lower unit and follow the engine manufacturer’s procedure for draining the gearcase oil.
  3. Remove the fasteners securing the lower unit to the driveshaft housing, then carefully separate the gearcase.
  4. Remove the water-pump housing cover to expose the old impeller.
  5. Remove the old impeller and note the vane orientation. Clean debris from the housing and water passages.
  6. Inspect the housing, wear plate, key and seals. Replace worn or damaged components as required; these parts are not included with this listing.
  7. Lubricate the impeller and housing with a suitable lubricant recommended by the engine manufacturer. Do not use a lubricant that can damage neoprene.
  8. Install the impeller with the key correctly positioned and orient the vanes in the direction specified for the engine.
  9. Reinstall the water-pump housing and tighten its fasteners to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  10. Guide the driveshaft and shift linkage back into position, then reinstall and secure the lower unit.
  11. Refill the gearcase with the correct marine gear oil according to the engine manufacturer’s procedure.
  12. Run the engine only in an appropriate water supply or test tank and verify a strong cooling-water telltale stream before normal operation.

Use the service manual for the specific engine when removing the lower unit, setting vane orientation, routing the shift linkage and tightening fasteners.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?

Compare the engine brand, model, horsepower, stroke, year and serial number with the compatibility information above. Also compare the original impeller and its manufacturer reference number. A matching horsepower rating alone is not sufficient to confirm fitment.

What are common signs of a failing water-pump impeller?

Symptoms can include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or missing telltale stream, steam from the exhaust and damaged, brittle, cracked or missing vanes on the old impeller. Stop operation if the engine overheats and inspect the cooling system.

How often should an outboard impeller be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on the engine manufacturer, operating hours and water conditions. Regular inspection and replacement are especially important after use in saltwater, sand or silt. Follow the service schedule for your specific engine.

Is this an OEM impeller?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement impeller. The OEM and aftermarket numbers shown are reference numbers for application and cross-reference purposes.

Why is there no water from the telltale after installation?

Possible causes include incorrect vane orientation, a damaged or incorrectly installed key, a blocked telltale or water passage, debris from the old impeller, a worn housing or wear plate, damaged seals, or an installation error. Stop the engine and inspect the cooling system before further operation.

Can I install this impeller myself?

This is a common maintenance procedure for an experienced technician or mechanically capable owner, but it requires lower-unit removal and correct reassembly. Use the service manual for the engine and obtain professional assistance if you are not confident with the work.

Does the package include a key or gasket?

No separate key, gasket or other water-pump component is listed as included. This listing is for one impeller only. Reuse or replace related components according to the engine manufacturer’s service instructions.

What are the shipping and warranty terms?

Shipping availability, delivery estimates, returns and any applicable warranty are determined by the seller’s current store policies and checkout options. Review those terms before placing an order.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the complete engine application, including model, year, horsepower, stroke and serial number, before purchase.
  • Compare the original impeller’s dimensions and reference number where possible.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Do not run an outboard without an adequate water supply. Stop immediately if the engine overheats or the telltale stream is absent.
  • Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit removal or shift-linkage adjustment is unfamiliar.
