Product Details
This stainless steel Skeg Guard Protector helps protect an outboard motor's skeg from ramp, underwater, and general operating damage, and can also be used to repair a damaged skeg when enough of the original skeg remains for secure attachment. The guard is designed for selected Mercury, Honda, Nissan, Tohatsu, Force, and Yamaha outboards in the listed 40–140 HP application range.
Constructed from marine-grade 316 stainless steel, this guard features a thickened 3 mm lower wear tab for added protection. A drain hole helps reduce water retention around the guard and supports long-term corrosion resistance.
Common aftermarket reference numbers for this guard include 27071 and 35-SS625. These references are provided for identification and comparison only; confirm the shape of your original skeg and the application details before ordering.

Engine & Model Compatibility
The application information below is a guide for selected outboards. Model, year, shaft configuration, skeg shape, and the amount of original skeg remaining can affect fit. Always compare the guard with your motor before installation. The guard does not fit Yamaha units with a curved skeg.

Troubleshooting & FAQ
How much of my original skeg needs to remain?
At least 2–3 inches of the original skeg should remain to provide a secure mounting area. The actual condition and shape of the remaining skeg should also be checked before installation.
Will this fit my Yamaha if the skeg is curved?
No. This guard is not intended for Yamaha units with a curved skeg.
How does the skeg guard attach?
The guard is positioned over the existing skeg, drilled using the guard's holes as a template, and secured with the included mounting hardware and self-locking nuts.
What material is the guard made from?
The guard is made from mirror-polished 316 marine-grade stainless steel.
Is this an OEM part?
No. This is an aftermarket skeg guard designed as a replacement for the listed aftermarket reference numbers. Confirm the exact application and compare the guard with your original skeg before purchase.

Safety & Important Information
- Verify the exact engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, shaft configuration, and skeg profile before ordering.
- Compare the guard with your original skeg. Horsepower or brand alone does not confirm fit.
- Do not use this guard on Yamaha units with a curved skeg.
- Make sure enough original skeg remains and that the skeg is structurally sound before drilling.
- Wear appropriate eye protection while drilling and inspect all fasteners before operating the motor.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended if the skeg is severely damaged or if you are unsure about the fit.
