Product Details
Protect or repair your lower unit's skeg with the SkegGuard 27071 Stainless Steel Replacement Skeg. This bolt-on guard is designed for selected Mercury/Mariner, Honda, Force, and Nissan/Tohatsu outboard applications. It helps shield the lower skeg from damage caused by rocks, underwater debris, and ramp contact while restoring the lower portion of a damaged skeg.
The guard slides over the remaining portion of the original skeg and is secured through the existing skeg with mounting hardware. Confirm your exact engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, and skeg profile before ordering.
- Bolt-on replacement and protective skeg guard for selected outboards.
- Constructed from mirror-polished 316 marine-grade stainless steel.
- Reinforced 3 mm lower wear tab for added protection.
- Drain hole helps reduce water retention inside the guard.
- Designed for a DIY installation that can be completed in approximately 10 minutes when the original skeg is suitable for repair.

Troubleshooting & FAQ
How much of my original skeg must remain?
A minimum of 2–3 inches (51–76 mm) of the original skeg must remain for a secure installation.
Can this guard be installed on a bent skeg?
No. The original skeg must be straightened before installation. A bent skeg can prevent the guard from seating and aligning correctly.
Does this replace the entire skeg?
No. This is a protective replacement guard for the lower portion of a damaged skeg. It slides over and bolts through the remaining original skeg.
What tools are required?
Installation requires a drill and suitable drill bit, a wrench or socket set, and a rubber mallet. Follow the instructions supplied with the product.
Is drilling required?
Yes. Two holes must be drilled through the existing skeg to secure the guard with the included mounting bolts.
Does the stainless-steel construction help resist corrosion?
Yes. The 316 marine-grade stainless-steel construction is intended for marine use, and the drain hole helps reduce water retention inside the guard.
Is this an OEM component?
No. This is an aftermarket replacement and protective skeg guard. Compare the guard with your original skeg and verify fitment before installation.
What is the warranty?
The product is covered by a 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. Contact support with your order details if a warranty issue occurs.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the engine brand, model, year, horsepower, stroke, gearcase, and skeg profile before ordering.
- Do not install the guard on a bent, unstable, or severely deteriorated skeg.
- Use appropriate eye protection and follow safe drilling practices during installation.
- Professional installation is recommended when the original skeg requires straightening or substantial repair.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
