Installation Notes

  1. Confirm proper fit before installation. At least 2–3 inches of the upper skeg must remain for the guard to mount securely.
  2. File spurs or jagged edges on the damaged skeg to create a smooth contact surface.
  3. Place the guard over the skeg and gently tap it into position with a leather, rubber, or wooden mallet.
  4. Use the pre-drilled holes in the guard as a template to drill 1/4-inch holes through the skeg.
  5. Install the stainless steel mounting bolts and nuts using the supplied hex key tool.
  6. Apply the included Loctite thread locker to the bolt threads before final tightening to help prevent loosening from vibration.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What if my original skeg is heavily damaged or broken off?

This guard can also be used as a skeg repair solution when at least 2–3 inches of the upper skeg remain for secure mounting. File rough edges smooth before installation and confirm that the remaining skeg provides adequate support.

How do I prevent the mounting bolts from coming loose?

Apply a small drop of the included Loctite 262 thread locker to each bolt thread before tightening. Follow the thread-locker manufacturer's handling and curing instructions.

Is the mirror finish just for looks?

The polished finish provides a smooth surface and complements the corrosion resistance of the 316 stainless steel. It may also help reduce surface buildup, but it does not replace routine inspection and maintenance.

Can I install this myself, or do I need a mechanic?

The bolt-on design is intended for DIY installation and typically takes about 5 minutes once the skeg is prepared. You will need a drill with a 1/4-inch bit and a suitable mallet. Professional installation is recommended if the skeg is severely damaged or you are uncertain about drilling and alignment.

What's the difference between an OEM part and this aftermarket part?

This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component. The listed reference numbers identify comparable aftermarket applications and do not establish OEM manufacture or endorsement. Verify the physical fit and application for your engine before purchase.

How fast is shipping and what does it cost?

We ship worldwide, and orders typically arrive within 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free for most orders, with expedited options available at checkout for an additional fee.

What is the warranty and return policy?

This product is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal marine use. Returns are accepted within the standard return window for unused parts in their original condition. Contact support with your order details for assistance.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, skeg dimensions, and product references before ordering.
  • Inspect the guard and mounting hardware regularly, especially after an impact or grounding event.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement component, not an OEM part.
  • Professional installation is recommended when the original skeg is severely damaged or when fitment is uncertain.
