Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires and the negative battery terminal for safety.
  2. Place the outboard gear shift into the neutral position.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's upper section and carefully lower it.
  4. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing to access the old impeller. Note the orientation of the impeller vanes.
  5. Clean any debris or corrosion from the housing interior and wear plate.
  6. Install the new impeller, gaskets, and key provided in the kit. Lubricate the housing and impeller with a marine-safe lubricant.
  7. Reinstall the water pump housing, ensuring bolts are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  8. Reattach the lower unit to the engine, making sure the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are correctly aligned.
  9. Reconnect the battery and spark plug wires. Test the engine using a water supply (flusher or in water) to verify proper water pump operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this kit fits my specific Mercury outboard?

Fitment for Mercury and Mariner engines is determined by the serial number, not just the model year. Please compare your engine's serial number to the ranges listed in the compatibility table (e.g., "A197112 and up"). If your engine falls within the specified range, this kit is compatible.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or inconsistent stream of water from the "tell-tale" outlet, and in severe cases, a steam or high-temperature alarm. Visual inspection may reveal cracked, brittle, or missing impeller vanes.

How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?

As a preventative maintenance measure, it is recommended to replace the impeller every one to two years, or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Usage in sandy or silty water may require more frequent changes.

Can I use this impeller kit in both saltwater and freshwater?

Yes. The impeller is made from durable neoprene rubber and the gaskets use marine-grade materials, making the kit fully suitable for use in both salt and freshwater environments.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.

Shipping speed & cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options appear at checkout where available.

Warranty & returns?

Covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If issues arise, contact support with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window (unused & in original condition). See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
