Installation Notes

Disconnect the spark plug leads and the battery for safety.
Drain the gearcase lube from the lower unit.
Remove the mounting bolts that secure the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's midsection.
Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the driveshaft housing.
Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing, impeller, and wear plate. Note the orientation of the parts.
Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces on the gearcase and driveshaft.
Install the new wear plate and gasket, followed by the new impeller (turn the driveshaft clockwise to set the vanes).
Install the new housing with its gasket. Lightly tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern.
Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align correctly.
Re-install and tighten the gearcase mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Refill the lower unit with fresh gear lube.
Reconnect the spark plug leads and battery. Test the engine in water, confirming a strong tell-tale stream.
