Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
  2. Drain the gearcase oil from the lower unit if required by the service procedure.
  3. Remove the fasteners securing the lower unit to the engine and carefully lower the unit.
  4. Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing assembly.
  5. Clean the mounting surfaces and inspect the driveshaft, water tube, and mating surfaces for scoring, corrosion, or wear.
  6. Install the new impeller, wear plate, gaskets, seals, housing components, and impeller key from the kit. Ensure the key is correctly seated in the driveshaft groove.
  7. Apply only a suitable water-pump assembly lubricant or light grease where appropriate, then install the housing while rotating the driveshaft in its normal direction so the impeller vanes seat correctly.
  8. Install and tighten the housing bolts to the engine manufacturer's specification.
  9. Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring that the water tube and shift linkage are correctly aligned.
  10. Refill the gearcase with the specified lubricant if it was drained, then test the cooling system with a suitable flush attachment before returning the outboard to service.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How often should the water pump impeller be replaced?

Inspect the impeller at the interval specified in your engine service manual. Replacement may be needed sooner when the outboard is used in saltwater or in sandy, silty, or debris-filled water.

What are the signs of a failing water pump?

Possible symptoms include a weak or intermittent tell-tale stream, an overheating warning, reduced cooling-water flow, or an impeller that is dry, brittle, cracked, or damaged during inspection. Stop operation and investigate any overheating condition promptly.

Is this kit compatible with all model years of the BF35-BF50?

This listing is intended for the Honda BF35A, BF40A, BF40D, BF45A, BF50A, and BF50D four-stroke models shown in the compatibility table. Model-year and serial-number coverage can vary, so compare your exact engine identification and original components before purchase.

What is the difference between this kit and a genuine Honda kit?

This is an aftermarket replacement kit, not a genuine Honda-branded kit. It is supplied as a replacement for the listed Honda reference numbers and includes the components identified in the package list.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement water pump impeller service kit. The Honda numbers shown are reference and replacement numbers for fitment identification.

What should I verify before ordering?

Verify the exact Honda model designation, horsepower, stroke, year or serial-number range, lower-unit configuration, and the reference numbers and component shapes against your original water pump parts.

Safety & Important Information

  • Always compare the supplied parts with the original components before installation.
  • Do not operate an outboard that shows signs of overheating or inadequate cooling-water flow.
  • Follow the engine manufacturer's service procedures and torque specifications.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement kit, not a genuine Honda component.
  • Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with lower-unit or water-pump service.
