Product Overview
The SeaSierra 14-inch propeller safety guard is a two-piece, bolt-on guard designed for 70–100 HP outboard motors with a standard gearcase. It mounts to the anti-ventilation plate and lower skeg to help protect the propeller area, improve visibility around the rotating propeller, and reduce the risk of contact with propeller blades.
Compatibility
This propeller guard is intended for 70–100 HP outboard motors and accommodates propellers up to 13.5 inches in diameter. It is suitable for many Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, BRP, and Suzuki outboards with a standard gearcase. It is not intended for Big Foot or High Thrust models. The guard is best suited to pontoon boats, deck boats, and similar vessels operating at speeds not exceeding 25 mph.
Confirm the engine manufacturer, horsepower, gearcase configuration, propeller diameter, and available mounting area before ordering. Compatibility is dependent on the specific outboard model and installation clearances.
Kit Components
The package includes:
- 1 two-piece polypropylene propeller safety guard
- 9 sets of installation bolts and associated mounting hardware
- 1 drill
Features and Benefits
- 14-inch safety guard designed for 70–100 HP standard-gearcase outboards.
- Two-piece bolt-on construction mounts to the anti-ventilation plate and skeg.
- Rigid polypropylene construction is lightweight, durable, and resistant to rust.
- 304 stainless steel hardware provides corrosion resistance in a marine environment.
- Helps improve visibility around the propeller and reduce the risk of propeller-blade injuries to people and marine life.
- Can help protect the propeller area and reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with underwater objects.
- Red finish remains visible while the boat is in use or being towed.
- Designed for outboard applications with propellers up to 13.5 inches in diameter.
Installation Instructions
- Position the guard beneath the anti-ventilation plate and check that there is equal clearance between the guard and the propeller throughout rotation.
- Align the guard as far forward on the anti-ventilation plate as practical while maintaining proper propeller clearance.
- For applicable 9-, 11-, 13-, and 14-inch guards, remove the trim tab beneath the anti-ventilation plate before installation.
- Mark and drill the mounting holes through the anti-ventilation plate and guard as required. Install the bolts, washers, and Nyloc nuts, then leave them loosely tightened for alignment.
- Drill the required holes through the lower skeg. Install the remaining bolts, washers, and Nyloc nuts, then tighten securely.
- Check the guard alignment and propeller clearance again, then fully tighten the anti-ventilation-plate fasteners.
- Rotate the propeller by hand with the engine off to confirm that it does not contact the guard before operating the boat.
Safety and Maintenance
- Installation should be performed with the engine switched off, the ignition disabled, and the propeller unable to rotate.
- Verify that all fasteners are tight and that the guard does not interfere with the propeller, skeg, trim tab, or steering movement.
- Inspect the polypropylene guard, stainless steel hardware, and mounting points regularly for cracks, deformation, corrosion, or looseness.
- Rinse the guard and mounting hardware with fresh water after use in salt water.
- Do not use the guard as a substitute for safe boating practices, proper engine maintenance, or a complete model-specific fitment check.
Frequently Asked Questions
What engines does this guard fit?
It is designed for 70–100 HP outboard motors with a standard gearcase and propellers up to 13.5 inches in diameter. Always verify the specific engine configuration and available clearance before installation.
Which outboard brands are supported?
The guard is intended for compatible Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, BRP, and Suzuki outboards. Brand compatibility alone does not confirm fitment; the exact horsepower, gearcase, propeller size, and mounting dimensions must also match.
Does it fit Big Foot or High Thrust models?
No. This guard is not intended for Big Foot or High Thrust models.
What is the maximum recommended boat speed?
It is intended for vessels operating at speeds not exceeding 25 mph, including pontoon and deck boats.
How should the guard be maintained?
After use, especially in salt water, rinse the guard with fresh water. Regularly inspect the guard and all mounting hardware for damage, corrosion, looseness, and adequate propeller clearance.
