Installation Notes
- Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain screw to empty the gear oil.
- Remove the bolts connecting the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper driveshaft housing.
- Carefully lower the gearcase to access the water pump assembly.
- Unbolt and remove the water pump housing, noting the position of all parts.
- Remove the old impeller, gaskets, wear plate, and seals. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly.
- Install the new gaskets, seals, and wear plate from the kit.
- Apply a light coat of silicone grease, glycerin, or dish soap to the inside of the housing and the new impeller.
- Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, installing the new driveshaft key. Ensure blades are oriented in the direction of driveshaft rotation.
- Reinstall the housing and tighten bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reattach the lower unit to the upper housing, and refill with fresh gear oil using new drain-plug gaskets.
- Reconnect the battery. Before starting, ensure the engine is in water. Verify a strong, steady stream of water from the tell-tale outlet immediately after starting.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
The most common signs include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, or a weak, inconsistent, or non-existent water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet port.
How often should I replace the impeller?
