Troubleshooting & FAQ
What's the difference between the 19210-ZV4-013 and 19210-ZV4-651 impellers?
The primary difference is the keyway type. Part 19210-ZV4-013 uses a flat keyway, common in pre-1997 and specific 1997 models. Part 19210-ZV4-651 uses a normal (or 'D-shaped') keyway, found in most 1997–2002 models. Please verify your exact model and serial number in our compatibility table.
How can I identify the correct impeller for my engine?
Check your engine's model and serial number. The compatibility table on this page lists the specific Honda models, years, and corresponding OEM part numbers. Pre-1997 models and certain 1997 serial number ranges use the flat keyway impeller (19210-ZV4-013), while later models use the normal keyway (19210-ZV4-651). When in doubt, visual comparison to your old part is recommended.
What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or intermittent water stream from the "telltale" outlet, or an alarm from the engine's temperature sensor. A dry, cracked, or brittle impeller should be replaced immediately, even if it has not failed completely.
How often should I replace my outboard's impeller?
For preventative maintenance, it is recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1 to 2 years, or every 100-200 hours of use. Replacement intervals should be shorter for boats operated in saltwater or in water with heavy sediment.
