Troubleshooting & FAQ

Will this fuel pump fit my engine if it has VRO?

No, this fuel pump is specifically designed for Johnson and Evinrude engines that do not have a VRO (Variable Ratio Oiling) system. It is for standard, pre-mixed fuel systems only.

What are the signs of a failing fuel pump?

Common symptoms of a failing fuel pump include the engine sputtering or bogging down at high speeds, loss of power, difficulty starting, or the engine stalling and not restarting.

Is the gasket included with this pump?

Yes, a new mounting gasket is included in the package to ensure a proper seal during installation.

Why does this pump have three hose connections (nipples)?

The three connections are for fuel in, fuel out to the carburetor(s), and a pulse line from the engine crankcase. The crankcase pressure pulses operate the pump's internal diaphragm.

How often should this fuel pump be replaced?

There is no specific replacement interval for mechanical fuel pumps. They should be inspected regularly and replaced if they show signs of leaking, physical damage, or are diagnosed as the cause of fuel delivery problems.

Can I use this pump with modern ethanol-blended fuels?

This pump is designed to be compatible with standard marine gasoline, including fuels containing up to 10% ethanol (E10). However, prolonged use of higher ethanol concentrations may accelerate wear.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
