Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and work in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
  2. Relieve fuel-system pressure and take appropriate measures to contain spilled fuel.
  3. Disconnect and securely cap the oil supply line leading to the original VRO pump. This line is not used after conversion.
  4. Disconnect the fuel inlet, fuel outlet, and pulse-limiter hoses from the original pump.
  5. Disconnect the original VRO pump electrical connector. Follow the engine manufacturer's wiring and alarm-system instructions.
  6. Remove the original pump assembly and mounting hardware.
  7. Position the replacement fuel pump assembly and secure it with the supplied mounting hardware.
  8. Connect the fuel lines to the corresponding pump ports and secure the hose connections.
  9. Use a 50:1 fuel-and-oil premix in the main fuel tank after the oil-injection system has been bypassed. A commonly used measure is 1 pint of TC-W3 two-stroke outboard oil for every 6 gallons of gasoline.
  10. Reconnect the battery, prime the fuel system with the primer bulb, and inspect every connection for leaks before starting the engine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this conversion assembly fits my engine?

Compare your complete Johnson/Evinrude engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, and original pump reference with the compatibility information and part-number matrix on this page. The listed application is for selected V4 60° looper two-stroke engines rated at 90–115 HP. Do not rely on horsepower alone.

Does this assembly continue to use the original oil-injection system?

No. This is a VRO-to-premix conversion assembly. Once installed correctly, the original oil-injection supply is bypassed and the engine must receive the specified fuel-and-oil premix.

What are common signs of a failing VRO pump?

Possible symptoms include rough running, surging, stalling, fuel starvation, warning alarms on equipped engines, or visible fuel and oil leakage. These symptoms can have multiple causes, so inspect and diagnose the complete fuel and lubrication systems before replacing parts.

What fuel-to-oil ratio is required after conversion?

A 50:1 premix is required for the conversion described here. This is commonly mixed as 1 pint, or 16 fluid ounces, of suitable TC-W3 two-stroke outboard oil for every 6 gallons of gasoline.

Is special wiring required?

The replacement fuel pump is intended to use the applicable existing fuel-system connections. The original VRO electrical and oil-warning functions may no longer operate in the same way after conversion. Follow the engine manufacturer's instructions and verify the warning-system implications before use.

Why convert from VRO to premix?

A premix conversion can simplify an aging oil-injection system by removing the original VRO pump from the fuel and lubrication arrangement. It also requires consistent fuel preparation and correct premix use every time the engine is fueled.

Is this an OEM component?

No. This listing describes an aftermarket replacement conversion assembly, not a Johnson/Evinrude OEM component.

What should I verify before installation?

Verify the original pump reference, engine model and year, horsepower, stroke, mounting arrangement, hose routing, and the contents of the package. Stop installation if the parts or connections do not match your application.

Safety & Important Info

  • Fuel and fuel vapor are flammable. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and keep the system away from sparks, flames, and hot surfaces.
  • Verify the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, original part number, and mounting arrangement before purchase.
  • This conversion changes the engine's lubrication method. Use the required 50:1 premix consistently after installation.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement assembly, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended, particularly when modifying the fuel or oil-injection system.
