Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm whether this impeller fits my engine?
Compare the complete engine model, serial number, horsepower, stroke and year with the compatibility tables. Also compare the old impeller’s dimensions and drive-pin arrangement. If any detail differs, consult the engine service manual or a qualified marine technician before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?
Common signs include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or missing telltale stream, reduced cooling-water flow, and cracked, stiff or damaged rubber vanes when the impeller is inspected.
How often should the impeller be replaced?
Inspect the impeller during routine service and replace it when the vanes are damaged, permanently set, cracked or hardened. Replacement intervals depend on engine use and water conditions, especially salt, sand and silt exposure.
Is the included pin necessary?
Yes. The pin acts as the drive key that locks the impeller to the shaft. Install the impeller with the correct pin in place and do not operate the water pump without it.
Is this an OEM part?
No. This is an aftermarket replacement impeller. Mercury, Mariner and Sierra are referenced only to identify compatible engines and replacement part numbers; this product is not manufactured or branded by those companies.
What should I do if the new impeller does not fit?
Do not force the impeller onto the shaft or into the housing. Recheck the engine serial range, original part number, shaft diameter, overall dimensions and drive-pin arrangement before installation.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the complete application and physical dimensions before purchase.
- Disconnect the starting system before servicing the lower unit.
- Never operate the engine without an adequate water supply to the cooling system.
- Inspect the pump housing, wear plate, seals and related components while replacing the impeller.
- Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit service is unfamiliar.
