Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this kit fits my specific engine?
Compare your engine brand, model, horsepower, 2-stroke configuration, year, serial-number range, and original water-pump part number with the compatibility information on this page. If any of these details differ, compare the original pump assembly and consult the engine service information before ordering.
What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?
Common signs include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or missing telltale stream, reduced cooling-water flow, and a burnt-rubber smell. A removed impeller may have cracked, brittle, distorted, or missing vanes.
How often should the impeller be serviced?
Inspect and replace the impeller according to the engine manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Service may be needed sooner when the engine is used in saltwater, muddy water, sandy conditions, or after a period of dry running.
Is the housing included?
Yes. This listing is for a water-pump impeller kit with housing. The package also includes the pump base, plate, key, gaskets, washer, and O-ring listed in the package-contents section. The water-tube coupling may depend on the applicable kit configuration.
My old part is stamped 46-77177A3. Is this the right kit?
46-77177A3 is one of the listed replacement references for this kit, but the engine model, year, serial number, stroke, and pump configuration must also match the application information before purchase.
Is this an OEM part?
No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit intended for the listed Mercury and Mariner applications. It is not manufactured by Mercury or Quicksilver.
What are the shipping and return terms?
Shipping availability, delivery estimates, and return eligibility are determined by the seller’s current checkout and store policies. Review the applicable policy before placing an order.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the engine model, year, serial number, stroke, and original pump configuration before ordering.
- Do not operate the outboard without an adequate water supply. Use a flush-muff device correctly or run the engine in the water.
- Follow the engine manufacturer’s service procedure and torque specifications.
- This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
- Professional installation is recommended if you are not experienced with lower-unit removal and water-pump service.
