The listed application range includes selected 2-stroke and 4-stroke models from 1999 onward. Always compare your engine model, year, horsepower, gearcase configuration, and remaining skeg dimensions before ordering.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this skeg guard will fit my engine?

Compare your complete Mercury or Mariner engine model, horsepower, year, stroke, gearcase configuration, and remaining skeg length with the listed applications. A minimum of approximately 2–3 inches of original skeg is required for the described installation. If the gearcase or skeg profile differs, do not rely on horsepower alone to determine fitment.

What is the advantage of 316 stainless steel?

316 stainless steel is commonly selected for marine hardware because it offers strong corrosion resistance in freshwater and saltwater environments. Regular rinsing and inspection are still recommended, especially after saltwater use.

Can I install this myself?

The described installation is a bolt-on process that requires drilling the remaining skeg and securing the supplied fasteners. Installation should be performed only by someone who can safely support the boat and correctly inspect the completed repair. Consult a qualified marine technician if the skeg is severely damaged or fitment is uncertain.

Does this skeg guard affect performance?

A correctly fitted and securely installed guard is intended to protect the skeg while maintaining normal gearcase operation. Incorrect fitment, loose hardware, or a damaged gearcase can affect handling and safety, so inspect the installation before operation.

What is the purpose of the drain hole?

The bottom drain hole allows water to escape from inside the guard and helps reduce water retention after use.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement and is not manufactured by Mercury or Mariner. The number 27211 is provided as a replacement reference, not as a statement that this product is an original-equipment component.

What are your shipping speed and cost?

Typical standard transit is 5–15 days, and standard shipping is offered at no additional charge where available. Expedited options, delivery estimates, and any location-specific charges are shown at checkout.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Returns are subject to the applicable store policy and condition requirements. For warranty or product-support questions, contact customer support with your order details and photographs of the product and installation area.

Safety & Important Information

  • Confirm the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, gearcase configuration, and skeg dimensions before purchasing.
  • Do not install the guard on a skeg that is too short, severely cracked, loose, or otherwise unable to support the repair.
  • Support the boat safely during installation and inspect all fasteners before launching.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement part, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when fitment or structural condition is uncertain.
