Installation Notes
- Prepare the engine by placing an oil drain pan and rags under the existing filter to catch any spills.
- Locate and unscrew the old oil filter using a suitable filter wrench. Turn counter-clockwise.
- Once the old filter is removed, wipe the mounting surface on the engine block clean with a lint-free cloth.
- Apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the gasket of the new filter. This prevents the gasket from sticking or tearing.
- Carefully thread the new filter onto the mounting base by hand. Turn clockwise until the gasket makes contact.
- Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn by hand. Do not overtighten.
- Check and top off the engine oil to the correct level as per your owner's manual.
- Start the engine and let it run for a minute, checking carefully for any leaks around the new filter.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I know if this filter fits my Yamaha engine?
The best way to ensure compatibility is to check the part number on your current filter. This part replaces Yamaha numbers N26-13440-03-00, N26-13440-02-00, and N26-13440-00-00. You can also consult our compatibility table and cross-reference your engine model and year.
What's the difference between this aftermarket filter and an OEM Yamaha part?
Our aftermarket filters are engineered to meet or exceed OEM specifications for fit, function, and filtration. They are made with comparable materials in an ISO 9002 certified facility. The primary difference is the price, offering a cost-effective alternative without compromising quality.
How often should I replace my outboard oil filter?
It is recommended to replace the oil filter every 100 hours of operation or at least once a year, whichever comes first. This should always be done as part of a complete oil change. Refer to your engine's service manual for the precise maintenance schedule.
What are the signs of a failing or clogged oil filter?
A clogged filter can restrict oil flow, leading to low oil pressure warnings, increased engine operating temperature, or a noticeable decrease in engine performance. In severe cases, it can cause premature engine wear or failure.
OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
