- Disconnect the negative battery cable and follow the outboard manufacturer’s service-safety procedure.
- Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the lower-unit mounting hardware.
- Carefully separate the lower unit from the upper housing while supporting the gearcase.
- Remove the water-pump housing fasteners and take off the pump assembly.
