  5. Reinstall the propeller, washers, and castle nut according to the service manual.
  6. Tighten the nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  7. Align a castle-nut slot with the hole in the propeller shaft without loosening the nut to achieve alignment.

Installation procedures and torque specifications vary by outboard model. Use the applicable service manual when servicing the propeller assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this fit my specific outboard?

Fitment depends on the exact model, year, shaft assembly, and applicable part number. Match the original part or service-manual reference with the numbers listed on this page before ordering.

Should I reuse the old cotter pin?

No. Replace the cotter pin whenever it has been removed. Bending can fatigue the metal, and a new pin provides the intended retention of the propeller nut.

What are the signs that a cotter pin needs replacement?

Replace a pin that is bent, cracked, corroded, loose, or difficult to remove. A damaged retaining pin can allow the propeller nut to loosen.

What tools are needed?

Pliers are typically used to remove and bend the cotter pin. A suitable wrench or socket is needed for the propeller nut, and the manufacturer’s specified torque procedure should be followed.

Is this an OEM part?

This is an aftermarket replacement part. The OEM and aftermarket numbers shown are reference numbers for fitment comparison and should be verified against the exact application.

Can this pin be used for other applications?

Do not use it for another application unless the dimensions, material, load requirements, and retaining procedure are known to match. It is intended for compatible outboard propeller assemblies.

Safety and Important Information

  • Verify the part number, dimensions, and application before purchase and installation.
  • Do not operate the outboard with a missing, damaged, or improperly installed propeller retaining pin.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s service manual for propeller removal, installation, torque, and safety procedures.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
