Product Details

This water pump impeller repair kit is intended for selected Suzuki outboard applications in the 20–50 HP range. The listed coverage includes 2-stroke DT20, DT25, DT25C, DT30, DT30C, DT35, and DT40C models, plus selected 4-stroke DF25, DF30, DF40, and DF50 models. Exact compatibility depends on the engine model, year, serial-number range, and the part installed in the original water-pump assembly.

The kit is listed as a replacement for Suzuki water-pump reference number 17400-96353. Other commonly associated reference numbers include 17400-96350, 17400-96351, 17400-96352, and 17400-96354. Aftermarket references commonly associated with this application include Sierra 18-3242, Quicksilver 8M6012809, and Mallory 9-45219. Confirm the number stamped or listed for your original part before ordering; reference-number overlap does not by itself confirm fitment.

  • Replacement water-pump service kit for selected Suzuki outboards.
  • Designed for installation in the standard lower-unit water-pump assembly when the application and component dimensions match.
  • Includes the impeller, wear plate, gasket, and impeller key listed below.
  • Suitable for routine water-pump service in freshwater or saltwater applications when installed and maintained correctly.

Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and place the outboard in neutral.
  2. Remove the lower unit according to the engine manufacturer's service procedure. Support the gearcase securely during removal.
  3. Remove the water-pump housing and inspect the housing, impeller cavity, wear plate, key, and driveshaft for damage or corrosion.
  4. Note the impeller-fin direction before removing the old impeller.
  5. Clean the mating surfaces and remove debris before installing the new gasket, wear plate, key, and impeller.
  6. Use a lubricant approved for marine water-pump assembly. Do not install the impeller dry.
  7. Install the impeller with the fins oriented for the correct driveshaft rotation, then lower the housing into position while turning the driveshaft as required by the service procedure.
  8. Reinstall the housing and tighten its fasteners to the engine manufacturer's specified torque.
  9. Reattach the lower unit, shift linkage, and driveshaft connections, then check operation before launching.
  10. Run the engine only in water or with an appropriate flushing device, and confirm a steady tell-tale stream without overheating.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if the water-pump impeller needs replacement?

Common indications include a weak or absent tell-tale stream, an overheating warning, reduced cooling performance, or a damaged, hardened, melted, or distorted impeller found during inspection. Sand, silt, salt deposits, and extended storage can accelerate wear.

How often should the impeller be replaced?

Replacement timing depends on the engine manufacturer's maintenance schedule and operating conditions. Inspect the impeller regularly and replace it sooner when the engine is used in sandy, silty, salty, or debris-filled water, or after an overheating event.

Does this kit fit every Suzuki 20–50 HP outboard?

No. Horsepower alone is not sufficient to confirm fitment. Match the exact model, year, serial-number range, stroke, and original water-pump reference before ordering.

Why are several reference numbers listed for some parts?

Manufacturers may supersede or revise component numbers during a production run. The numbers shown are application references associated with the listing, not a substitute for checking the exact engine service information.

What is most important during installation?

Use the correct gasket and key, seat the key securely, orient the impeller fins for the correct rotation, lubricate the impeller during assembly, and tighten fasteners to the manufacturer's specification.

Is this an OEM part?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement kit. It is not represented as a Suzuki, Johnson, Evinrude, Sierra, Quicksilver, or Mallory branded OEM product.

Safety & Important Information

  • Confirm the complete engine model, year, serial number, stroke, and original part number before purchase.
  • Compare the supplied components with the original parts and verify dimensions before installation.
  • Do not operate an outboard without an adequate water supply for cooling.
  • Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit removal or water-pump service is unfamiliar.
  • Follow the engine manufacturer's service manual for torque values, sealants, lubrication, and testing procedures.
