  1. Disconnect the battery and ensure the outboard is in neutral.
  2. Remove the mounting bolts securing the lower unit or gearcase, then carefully lower it from the engine.
  3. Unbolt and lift the water pump housing to expose the impeller.
  4. Inspect the housing and wear plate. Clean or replace them if significant scoring, damage, or warping is present.
  5. Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, and gaskets. Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly.
  6. Install the new gaskets, wear plate, and woodruff key onto the driveshaft as required by the engine service procedure.
  7. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft clockwise to help seat the vanes correctly inside the housing.
  8. Reinstall the pump housing cover and tighten the bolts to the engine manufacturer's recommended torque specification.
  9. Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align correctly. Fasten the mounting bolts.
  10. Test-run the engine in water and confirm a steady stream from the cooling-system tell-tale port.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this kit fits my specific model?

Check the Engine & Model Compatibility table for the engine model, horsepower, stroke, and listed year range. Then compare the part number on your existing water pump components with the Part Number Matrix. If the model, year, serial range, or part number is uncertain, consult the engine service documentation before ordering.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or intermittent water stream from the tell-tale, engine overheating warnings, steam from the exhaust, or reduced cooling performance.

How often should I replace the impeller?

Inspect the impeller according to the engine manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Replacement intervals can be shorter when the outboard is used in saltwater or silty or sandy conditions.

Is this an OEM part?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement kit, not an OEM component. The OEM and manufacturer part numbers shown are reference numbers for compatibility comparison only.

What should I verify before installation?

Verify the exact engine model, horsepower, stroke, year or serial range, and the part number of the existing water pump components. Compare the replacement components with the original parts before beginning service.

Safety & Important Information

  • Always compare the replacement components with the original parts before installation.
  • Do not rely on horsepower alone to confirm fitment; model, year, serial range, and part number may also be required.
  • Follow the engine manufacturer's service procedure and torque specifications.
  • Professional installation is recommended when you are not experienced with outboard lower-unit or water-pump service.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement kit, not an OEM component.
