Troubleshooting and FAQ

How do I confirm that this impeller fits my engine?

Compare the original impeller, pump number, and pump arrangement with the reference numbers and application information above. The engine displacement and year alone are not sufficient because pump configurations can vary.

What are common signs of a failing impeller?

Symptoms may include overheating at idle or low speed, reduced water flow from the exhaust, damaged or missing blades, or leakage around the pump housing.

How often should an impeller be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on operating conditions, storage, water contamination, and the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Inspect the impeller regularly and replace it when blades show cracking, wear, distortion, or loss.

Why should the pump number be checked?

Engines in the same displacement family may use different pumps or impellers. Matching the pump and original part helps prevent ordering an otherwise similar but incompatible component.

What is the stop lug used for?

The stop lug is used by applicable pump designs to prevent the impeller from turning on the shaft. Install it only in the position and configuration used by the original pump.

What should I check if the engine still overheats?

Check the raw-water intake, strainers, hoses, pump cover, heat exchanger, exhaust passages, thermostat, and closed-cooling circuit where applicable. Confirm that the new impeller is installed in the correct direction and that no damaged blade fragments remain in the cooling passages.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit. Volvo Penta and Sierra names and part numbers are used only to identify application and reference compatibility.

Safety and Important Information

  • Verify the original part and pump configuration before ordering.
  • Close the seacock before servicing the pump and reopen it before operating the engine.
  • Do not operate the engine without an adequate supply of cooling water.
  • Inspect for leaks and confirm proper water flow immediately after installation.
  • Professional installation is recommended when the pump or cooling system is difficult to access.
