Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this impeller fits my specific engine?

Check your engine’s brand, model, horsepower, stroke type, year, and OEM part number against the compatibility table. Because fitment can depend on model and serial-number details, compare the original impeller and consult the engine parts diagram when necessary.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common signs include a weak, intermittent, or absent tell-tale stream, an overheating alarm, or reduced cooling performance. Stop operation if the engine overheats and inspect the cooling system.

How often should I replace the impeller?

Inspect the impeller regularly and replace it according to the engine manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Service intervals can be shorter in saltwater, sandy, silty, or heavily used applications.

Can I install this myself?

Many experienced boat owners can replace an impeller, but the job requires lower-unit disassembly and correct reassembly. If you are not familiar with outboard service procedures, use a qualified marine mechanic.

Is this an OEM part?

This listing is for an aftermarket replacement impeller, not a Yamaha-branded OEM component. Yamaha and Sierra numbers are provided only as replacement and cross-reference identifiers.

Does this include a complete water pump kit?

No. This package contains one impeller only. Gaskets, keys, seals, plates, cups, housings, bolts, and other repair-kit components are not included.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify the model, year, horsepower, stroke type, serial-number range, and OEM part number before ordering.
  • Compare the replacement impeller with the original part before installation.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit service experience is limited.
  • Do not operate an outboard with an overheating engine or without confirming proper cooling-water flow.
