  2. Shift the outboard into neutral and remove the lower unit according to the applicable service manual.
  3. Remove the water pump cover or housing fasteners and carefully disassemble the existing pump.
  4. Remove the old impeller, gaskets, O-ring, wear components, and key. Record the original component order and orientation.
  5. Clean all mating surfaces and inspect the driveshaft, water tube, keyway, and surrounding components for damage or corrosion.
  6. Install the new key, gaskets, cartridge and plate components, impeller, and housing in the correct order for your engine model.
  7. Seat the impeller in the housing without cutting or folding the blades. Follow the service-manual direction for driveshaft rotation.
  8. Install the supplied fasteners and tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque. Do not use a guessed torque value.
  9. Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring correct alignment of the driveshaft, shift mechanism, and water tube.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

What signs indicate a failing water pump?

Common signs include a weak or missing tell-tale stream, overheating warnings, elevated engine temperature, or a damaged, brittle, cracked, or missing impeller blade. Inspect the complete pump assembly when replacing the impeller.

Does this kit include the water pump housing?

Yes. The company product record identifies this item as a water pump service kit with housing. The housing-related cartridge and plate components are also listed in the package contents.

Will this kit fit a Yamaha F90 4-stroke?

No. This listing is for Yamaha 2-stroke outboards. It is not intended for F90 4-stroke models. Verify the engine's stroke type and exact model number before ordering.

Will a 60–90 HP rating by itself confirm fitment?

No. Model family, year, serial range, shaft configuration, and pump design must be considered together. Match your exact engine information and OEM reference number to the compatibility information above.

Do I need additional gaskets or sealants?

The listed gaskets and O-ring are included for the standard water pump service. Do not add sealants unless the applicable Yamaha service procedure specifically calls for them. Use only suitable marine lubricant where required by the service manual.

Is this a genuine Yamaha component?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit designed to replace the listed Yamaha water pump repair kit references. Yamaha is a trademark of its respective owner and is used only to identify application compatibility.

Can I install the kit without a service manual?

Professional installation or use of the correct model-specific service manual is recommended. Incorrect impeller orientation, damaged sealing surfaces, misalignment, or improper fastener torque can cause water-pump failure or engine overheating.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the complete engine model, year, stroke type, and serial-number conditions before ordering.
  • Compare the original pump assembly and OEM reference number with the supplied components.
  • Never operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Stop operation immediately if the tell-tale stream is weak, the engine overheats, or an alarm occurs.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not a genuine Yamaha component.
  • Professional installation is recommended for safety and reliable cooling performance.
