  1. Review the engine service information and confirm the correct model, year, stroke, and serial-number requirements.
  2. Disconnect the battery, if equipped, and remove the engine cover as required for access.
  3. Drain the gearcase oil from the lower unit if required by the service procedure.

  11. Run the engine with an appropriate water supply and verify a steady cooling-water tell-tale stream before normal operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this kit fits my engine?

Compare the engine brand, exact model designation, horsepower, stroke, production year, and—where applicable—the serial-number prefix with the compatibility table. Also compare the original impeller and housing before installation.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common signs include overheating, a weak or missing tell-tale stream, reduced cooling-water flow, or an impeller that is cracked, brittle, deformed, or missing vanes.

How often should the water pump kit be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on the engine manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and operating conditions. Inspect the impeller regularly and replace it when damaged, hardened, worn, or due according to the service schedule, particularly after extended saltwater use.

Why buy a full kit instead of just the impeller?

A complete kit allows the impeller, housing, wear components, gaskets, seal, and related hardware to be serviced together. Reusing worn pump components may reduce sealing performance or cooling-water flow.

Can I install this kit myself?

Installation requires lower-unit removal and correct reassembly of the cooling-water pump. Experienced owners may perform the work with the proper tools and service information; professional installation is recommended if you are unsure of the procedure.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit. The manufacturer and OEM reference numbers are provided only to help compare the listed application and replacement references.

What should I do if my original parts look different?

Do not force installation or rely on horsepower alone. Stop and compare the exact model, year, stroke, serial-number condition, original part numbers, and component dimensions before proceeding.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke, and applicable serial-number prefix before purchase.
  • Compare the replacement components with the original parts before installation.
  • Follow the engine manufacturer’s service procedure, torque specifications, lubrication requirements, and cooling-system testing instructions.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement component and is not manufactured by Yamaha or Mariner.
  • Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit removal or water-pump service is unfamiliar.
