Product Details

This Water Pump Impeller Kit is an aftermarket cooling-system service kit for selected Yamaha outboard engines. It is intended for routine water-pump maintenance in the lower unit and helps restore dependable water circulation through the engine cooling system.

The kit is associated with Yamaha water-pump reference 6H3-W0078-A0 and is also cross-referenced in aftermarket catalogs with Yamaha reference 6H3-W0078-02-00 and Sierra reference 18-3465. Always confirm the complete engine model and year before ordering; horsepower alone is not sufficient for fitment.

  • Water-pump service components for selected Yamaha outboards.
  • Installs in the lower-unit gearcase water-pump assembly.
  • Supports replacement of the impeller and related wear, sealing, and fastening components supplied in the kit.
  • Aftermarket replacement; not a Yamaha or Sierra-branded component.

Part Number Matrix

Use these manufacturer and aftermarket references when comparing the part to your existing water-pump service components.

Installation Notes

  1. Place the outboard in a safe service position, disconnect the battery where applicable, and shift the gearcase into neutral.
  2. Remove the lower unit according to the service procedure for your exact Yamaha model.
  3. Remove the water-pump cover and inspect the housing, driveshaft, water tube, and mating surfaces for damage or excessive wear.
  4. Remove the old impeller, gaskets, cartridge components, key, and fasteners. Clean all sealing surfaces without scratching them.
  5. Install the supplied key on the driveshaft and position the new impeller over the key.
  6. Install the supplied gaskets, cartridge insert, outer plate, O-ring, and related components in the correct order for your water-pump assembly.
  7. Rotate the driveshaft in the specified direction while fitting the pump cover so the impeller blades seat correctly.
  8. Install and tighten the supplied fasteners using the torque specification in the service manual for your engine.
  9. Reinstall the lower unit, making sure the driveshaft, shift mechanism, and water tube are correctly aligned.
  10. Run the engine only with an appropriate flushing device or in suitable water and verify a steady cooling-water tell-tale stream before normal operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm that this kit fits my Yamaha outboard?

Compare the complete model designation on your engine with the compatibility table and verify the existing water-pump reference. Do not rely on horsepower alone because Yamaha engines with similar horsepower can use different water-pump components.

What are common signs of a worn water-pump impeller?

Symptoms can include a weak or intermittent tell-tale stream, overheating at idle or low speed, reduced cooling-water circulation, or visible cracking, hardening, deformation, or missing blades when the impeller is inspected.

Should the impeller and gaskets be replaced together?

Replacing the related gaskets, O-ring, key, and wear components during the same service helps reduce the risk of leakage and premature water-pump wear. Inspect the pump housing and plate separately and replace them if damaged.

Does this kit include a complete water-pump housing?

No complete housing is listed as part of this impeller kit. Confirm the supplied component list and compare your existing housing and pump body before installation.

Can I install this kit myself?

Installation requires removal of the lower unit and correct assembly of the water pump. It is suitable for an experienced DIY mechanic with the proper tools and service information. If you are unfamiliar with lower-unit service, use a qualified marine technician.

Is this an OEM Yamaha part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit intended for the listed applications. Yamaha and Sierra numbers are provided only as reference and cross-reference information.

Safety & Important Information

  • Confirm the complete engine model, year, shaft configuration, and serial-number information before ordering.
  • Inspect the pump housing, wear plate, driveshaft, water tube, and sealing surfaces before reassembly.
  • Use the service manual for your exact engine for torque values, assembly order, and lower-unit procedures.
  • Never operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Stop immediately if the tell-tale stream is weak, intermittent, or absent, or if the engine shows signs of overheating.
