Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the battery and place the outboard in neutral.
  2. Remove the fasteners securing the lower unit and carefully separate the lower unit from the upper housing.
  3. Locate the water pump housing on top of the lower unit and remove its mounting fasteners.
  4. Lift the housing from the driveshaft and note the original impeller-vane orientation.
  5. Remove the old impeller, key, gaskets, plates, and seals. Clean the mating surfaces.
  6. Install the replacement key, gasket, wear plate, and other applicable components from the kit.
  7. Apply silicone grease, glycerin, or dish soap to the impeller and pump-housing interior as appropriate. Do not use petroleum-based grease on the rubber impeller.
  8. Install the impeller on the driveshaft while turning the shaft in the correct direction for the engine so the vanes seat without damage.
  9. Install the pump housing, seals, and O-rings. Tighten fasteners to the engine manufacturer’s specified torque.
  10. Reinstall the lower unit, aligning the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube. Check for proper water flow before normal operation.

Follow the service manual for your exact engine model. Professional installation is recommended when the correct model, year, serial range, or installation procedure is uncertain.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How can I confirm fitment?

Compare the complete engine model, year, stroke type, and serial-prefix or serial-number condition with the compatibility table. Also compare the existing water pump part number with the reference numbers listed above. If any detail differs, consult the engine service manual before ordering.

What are signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Possible signs include a weak or absent tell-tale stream, an overheating warning, elevated operating temperature, or reduced cooling performance. A removed impeller may have cracked, brittle, distorted, or missing vanes.

How often should the impeller be inspected?

Inspect the impeller according to the engine manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Frequent operation in sand, silt, or salt water can increase wear and may require more frequent inspection or replacement.

Does the kit include the water pump housing?

No main upper or lower water pump housing is listed as included. This kit is intended to replace the internal service components identified in the box-contents section.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement kit. The OEM and aftermarket numbers shown are reference numbers for identification and fitment comparison.

What lubricant is used during installation?

Silicone grease, glycerin, or dish soap may be used as an installation aid when appropriate. Lubricant is not included.

Safety & Important Information

  • Confirm the complete engine identification and reference part number before purchase.
  • Do not operate an outboard with inadequate cooling-water flow.
  • Use the service manual for tightening torques, shift-shaft alignment, and model-specific procedures.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with lower-unit or water-pump service.
