Installation Notes

  1. Ensure the engine is off and the outboard is tilted up to a safe working position.
  2. Locate the old trim tab anode on the underside of the anti-cavitation plate.
  3. Use a wrench to remove the mounting bolt and detach the old, worn anode.
  4. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly to ensure a good electrical connection.
  5. Position the new anode and insert the mounting bolt.
  6. Tighten the bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque. Do not overtighten.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Is this anode for standard or counter-rotation engines?

This anode is specifically designed for Yamaha engines with counter-rotating (Left Hand) propellers. It will not function correctly on a standard (Right Hand) rotation lower unit.

Is mounting hardware included?

No, the M10 x 1.25mm mounting bolt is not included. You will need to reuse your existing hardware if it is in good condition or purchase a new bolt separately.

How can I tell if my trim tab anode needs replacing?

Inspect your anode regularly. It should be replaced when it appears to be 50% eroded or heavily pitted. A worn anode reduces its ability to protect other metal components from galvanic corrosion and can affect steering.

What is the difference between zinc and aluminum anodes?

Zinc anodes are the standard for saltwater use. Aluminum anodes are formulated for saltwater and brackish water. Magnesium anodes are for freshwater use only. This product is a zinc anode, ideal for saltwater environments.

Why is my boat pulling to one side?

The trim tab anode also acts as a small rudder to counteract propeller torque. If it is worn out or improperly adjusted, your boat may pull to one side. Ensure the new anode is installed correctly and adjusted as needed.

Can I paint my anode?

No. Never paint an anode. Paint insulates the anode, preventing it from making the electrical contact with the water that is necessary for it to provide sacrificial protection to your engine.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It has been built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. It was manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility and is batch-inspected for consistency.
