Installation Notes

Close the water inlet seacock.
Remove the end-cover screws from the raw water pump.
Pry off the cover plate and remove the old gasket.
Using pliers or an impeller puller, remove the old impeller. Note the blade orientation.
Clean the inside of the pump housing and inspect for scoring or wear.
Lubricate the new impeller with a small amount of glycerin or dish soap. Do not use petroleum-based lubricants.
Install the new impeller with a twisting motion in the same rotational direction as the old one was removed.
Place the new gasket or O-ring on the cover plate.
Re-install the cover plate and tighten the screws evenly.
Open the seacock and start the engine, checking immediately for leaks.

No. Never run the raw water pump dry. The impeller requires water for lubrication. Running it dry for even a few seconds can cause significant damage to the neoprene blades, leading to premature failure and potential engine overheating.
