- Place an absorbent towel under the pump to catch any spilled coolant.
- Remove the water pump cover plate and gasket.
- Gently remove the old impeller using needle-nose pliers or impeller puller tools. Avoid damaging the pump housing.
- Clean the inside of the pump housing and inspect for scoring or wear.
- Lubricate the new impeller and the inside of the pump housing with a suitable lubricant (e.g., glycerin or dish soap).
- Insert the new impeller, rotating the shaft in the direction of engine operation to bend the blades correctly.
- Install the new gasket and O-ring as required, then reinstall the cover plate.
- Open the seacock, start the engine, and immediately check for leaks and proper water flow.
