Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If applicable, drain the gearcase oil from the lower unit.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the outboard's midsection and carefully lower it.
  4. Unbolt and remove the water pump housing cover to expose the impeller.
  5. Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft, being sure to collect the Woodruff key.
  6. Clean any debris from the pump housing interior and wear plate. Inspect them for deep grooves or warping and replace if necessary.
  7. Apply a light coat of marine grease or a soap-and-water solution to the housing interior and the new impeller.
  8. Install the new Woodruff key into the driveshaft slot.
  9. Slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, turning the shaft clockwise to bend the blades into the correct orientation as it engages with the housing.
  10. Reinstall the water pump housing and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specified value.
  11. Reattach the lower unit to the engine and refill the gearcase with fresh oil. Test run the engine on water, confirming a steady stream from the cooling system's tell-tale port.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this impeller fits my Suzuki engine?

The most reliable method is to match your old part number to one of the equivalents listed in our Part Number Matrix. You should also consult the Engine & Model Compatibility table to confirm your specific model and year range are included.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include the engine overheating at idle or low speeds, a weak or intermittent water stream from the tell-tale outlet, and a dry, cracked, or deformed appearance of the old impeller upon inspection.

How often should I replace my water pump impeller?

As a best practice for preventative maintenance, most manufacturers recommend replacing the impeller every 1 to 2 years or every 100 to 200 hours of operation, whichever comes first. Usage in saltwater or silty/sandy conditions may require more frequent changes.

My DT60 is listed as "Based on secondary sources." Is it compatible?

This indicates that while many aftermarket sources list this part as compatible, we have not independently verified it with primary OEM data. We recommend you confirm fitment by comparing the dimensions and part number from your old impeller before purchasing.

What is the difference between this impeller and the original Suzuki part?

Our aftermarket impeller is designed to meet or exceed original equipment specifications for material, fit, and performance. It is made from similar high-quality neoprene and nylon compounds but is available at a more competitive price point.

Is any special lubricant needed for installation?

Yes, applying a thin layer of marine-grade grease or a simple soap and water solution to the inside of the pump cup and on the impeller blades will ease installation and provide initial lubrication on startup.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). Built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials. Manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, batch-inspected for consistency.
