Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do I confirm that this kit fits my Yamaha outboard?
Check the complete engine model designation, model year, shaft or mounting configuration, and serial-number range against the Yamaha parts diagram. Also compare the existing water pump repair kit number with 6BG-W0078-00-00 or 6BG-W0078-01-00. A horsepower-only match is not sufficient.
What are common signs of a worn water pump?
A weak or intermittent tell-tale stream, overheating warning, steam, reduced cooling-water flow, or an engine that runs hotter than normal can indicate water pump wear. Other cooling-system restrictions should also be checked.
Should I replace the entire repair kit or only the impeller?
Replacing the complete repair kit is generally preferable when the wear plate, insert, gasket, key, O-ring, or seals show wear. Replacing only an impeller may not correct leakage or excessive clearance in the remaining components.
Can this kit correct every overheating problem?
No. Overheating can also result from blocked water intakes, clogged cooling passages, a damaged water tube, thermostat problems, or other cooling-system faults. Inspect the complete system if the symptom remains after water pump service.
Are special tools required?
Basic mechanical tools and a torque wrench are normally required, but the exact procedure varies by model. Use the service manual for the correct lower-unit removal procedure, fastener torque, lubricant specification, and safety requirements.
Is this an OEM Yamaha part?
No. This is an aftermarket replacement kit intended for applications that use the listed Yamaha reference numbers. Yamaha is a trademark of its respective owner and is used only to identify compatibility.
Safety & Important Information
- Verify the exact engine model, year, configuration, and part-number reference before ordering.
- Do not operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
- Follow the applicable service manual for torque values, sealant requirements, gearcase lubrication, and lower-unit installation.
- Inspect all mating surfaces and related cooling-system components before reassembly.
- Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit service experience is limited.
