Product Details

This aftermarket water pump impeller kit is designed for select Mercury and Mariner outboard motors, as well as select Force and Chrysler models. The documented applications include 2-stroke and 4-stroke outboards ranging from 18 HP through 75 HP, subject to the model, year, gear ratio, and serial-number conditions listed below. Replacing a worn or damaged impeller helps maintain proper water circulation through the engine cooling system.

The impeller is offered as a kit with one impeller and one impeller key. It is listed as a replacement reference for Mercury Marine part numbers 47-85089-1, 47-85089-3, 47-85089-10, 47-85089-20, 47-8508910, 47-850893, 47-8M0024502, and 47-8M0027792, along with selected aftermarket references shown in the part-number matrix.

  • Installation: Direct replacement for applications using the listed impeller specification; no modification is intended.
  • Material: Neoprene rubber impeller with a metal-alloy hub.
  • Kit contents: One water pump impeller and one impeller key.
  • Fitment verification: Match the complete engine model, stroke, year or serial range, and gear-ratio notes before ordering.

Part Number Matrix

Use these references to compare the replacement with the number shown on your original part or in your engine parts catalog. Part-number correspondence does not replace verification of the complete engine application.

Engine and Model Compatibility

Confirm the engine model, stroke, year or serial range, and any ratio note in the applicable table. Similar horsepower ratings can use different water-pump components, so horsepower alone is not sufficient for fitment.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

How do I find my engine serial number?

The serial number is commonly located on a metal plate or label on the outboard transom-mounting bracket. Use the serial number together with the model and stroke when confirming fitment.

What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?

Common signs include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or missing telltale stream, and a dry, cracked, or brittle impeller during inspection.

How often should the impeller be replaced?

Replacement intervals depend on operating conditions and the engine manufacturer recommendations. Frequent use in saltwater, sand, or silt can accelerate wear; inspect the impeller regularly and replace it when damaged, hardened, cracked, or when cooling performance declines.

Can I install this part myself?

Installation is possible for a person with suitable mechanical experience and tools. If you are not familiar with lower-unit removal, shift-linkage adjustment, water-pump assembly, or torque procedures, professional installation is recommended.

Is this an OEM part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement part. The referenced brand names and part numbers are used to identify compatibility and cross-reference applications only.

What should I verify before ordering?

Compare your original impeller and key, then confirm the complete model, horsepower, stroke, year or serial range, and any gear-ratio condition listed in the compatibility tables.

Safety and Important Information

  • Verify the model, stroke, year or serial range, and original-part dimensions before purchase.
  • Do not operate an outboard without adequate cooling-water supply during testing.
  • Improper lower-unit, shift-linkage, water-pump, or gasket installation can cause overheating or engine damage.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component. Brand names and part numbers are used for reference purposes only.
  • Professional installation is recommended when the required service procedures or torque specifications are unfamiliar.
