Installation Notes

Professional installation is recommended. If you perform the work yourself, follow the service procedure for your exact engine and consult the manufacturer’s service manual for lower-unit removal, shift-linkage alignment, torque specifications, and water-pump assembly details.

  1. Disconnect the battery and place the outboard in neutral.
  2. Support the lower unit and remove the fasteners securing it to the upper housing.
  3. Lower the gearcase carefully, disconnecting the shift linkage if required by the engine design.
  4. Remove the water-pump housing to expose the old impeller.
  5. Remove the old impeller and note the position of the drive key and the direction of vane deflection.
  6. Inspect the key, wear plate, pump housing, seals, and water-tube connection. Replace worn or damaged components as required.
  7. Install the replacement impeller with the drive key correctly seated and the vanes oriented for the specified direction of rotation.
  8. Reassemble the pump housing and reinstall the lower unit according to the service manual.
  9. Run the engine using an appropriate water supply and confirm a strong cooling-water tell-tale stream and normal operating temperature.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting FAQ

How often should I replace the impeller?

Inspect the water-pump impeller during routine service and replace it according to the maintenance schedule for your engine. Replacement intervals can be shorter when the engine is operated in saltwater, sandy water, silty water, or after an overheating event.

What are common signs of a worn impeller?

Possible signs include a weak or missing tell-tale stream, an overheating warning, reduced cooling-water flow, damaged or stiff vanes, or visible cracking during inspection. Stop operation if the engine overheats and investigate the cooling system.

Does this fit every DF25–DF50 or DT20–DT60 engine?

No. Fitment depends on the exact model, year, serial number, and water-pump configuration. Use the application table and compare the old part number before purchasing.

Is this an OEM impeller?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement impeller. The listed Suzuki numbers are OEM reference numbers used to identify the intended replacement application.

Are gaskets or a drive key included?

No. The package contains one impeller only. Gaskets, keys, and other water-pump service parts are not included unless specifically listed.

Can I install it myself?

Installation requires removal of the lower unit and access to the water-pump housing. Many experienced boat owners perform this service, but professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with outboard lower-unit service.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the complete engine model, year, serial number, and existing impeller reference before ordering.
  • Do not operate an outboard without an adequate water supply.
  • Stop the engine immediately if an overheating warning occurs or the tell-tale stream is absent.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement component, not a genuine OEM part.
  • Use the correct service-manual procedures and torque specifications for your engine.
