Installation Notes
- Disconnect the engine's battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) and carefully separate it from the upper housing.
- Locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase and remove its mounting bolts.
- Slide the housing up and off the driveshaft to expose the old impeller. Note the direction of the old vanes.
- Remove the old impeller and woodruff key. Clean any debris or corrosion from the housing and wear plate.
- Install the new woodruff key and slide the new impeller onto the driveshaft, rotating it in the direction of engine operation to bend the vanes correctly.
- Apply a light coat of marine grease or soap to the inside of the housing and reinstall it over the impeller.
- Secure the housing bolts to the manufacturer's torque specifications.
- Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube are properly aligned.
- Once reassembled, test the engine using a water supply (flushing muffs or in the water) to confirm proper water circulation.
