Installation Notes

  1. Disconnect the engine's battery and remove the safety lanyard.
  2. Place the outboard in neutral and drain the lower unit gear lube into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the engine's midsection and carefully lower it.
  4. Locate and unbolt the water pump housing cover.
  5. Slide the old impeller off the driveshaft, noting the direction its blades are curved.
  6. Clean the interior of the pump housing and inspect the housing, wear plate, and seals for damage, replacing if necessary.
  7. Lightly grease the new impeller and slide it onto the driveshaft while turning the shaft clockwise to bed the blades correctly.
  8. Reinstall the water pump housing and torque its bolts to the manufacturer's specification.
  9. Reinstall the lower unit, ensuring the water tube and shift shaft are correctly aligned, and refill with fresh gear lube.
  10. Reconnect the battery and test the engine in a water source to confirm a strong tell-tale stream.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this impeller fits my engine?

The best way is to check your engine's part manual for the required OEM part number. You can then compare it with the numbers listed in our Part Number Matrix. Also, review the Engine & Model Compatibility table to see if your specific model and year are listed.

What are common signs of a bad water pump impeller?

A weak or no water stream from the "tell-tale" outlet is the most common sign. Other symptoms include engine overheating alarms, a hot-to-the-touch engine casing, and in severe cases, steam from the exhaust.

How often should the impeller be replaced?

As a general rule, it's recommended to inspect the impeller annually and replace it every 1–2 years or every 100–200 hours of use, whichever comes first. This interval can be shorter if you operate in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.

Can I install this part myself?

Yes, impeller replacement is a common maintenance task for many boat owners with basic mechanical skills and tools. However, it involves removing the lower unit, so it's important to follow a service manual for your specific engine model. If you are unsure, we recommend professional installation.

Are any special tools needed?

Standard mechanic's tools like a socket/wrench set are usually sufficient to remove the lower unit and water pump housing. Some engine models might require a flywheel puller or lifting hoist for removing a heavy lower unit. Always consult your service manual.

Is this an OEM part?

This listing is an aftermarket replacement (not OEM). It is built to OEM-level specifications with comparable materials and manufactured in an ISO 9002 facility, where it is batch-inspected for consistency.

What are the shipping speed and cost?

We ship worldwide quickly—typical transit is 5–15 days. Standard shipping is free; expedited options will appear at checkout where available.

What is the warranty and return policy?

This part is covered by a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If any issues arise, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard window, provided the item is unused and in its original condition. See our policy page or reach out for instructions.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify images/specifications vs your original part. If anything differs—even if your model appears compatible—do not purchase.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
