Troubleshooting & FAQ

How much of my original skeg do I need for this to fit?

At least 2–3 inches of the original skeg should remain for the guard to seat securely. Severely damaged or substantially missing skegs may require repair or professional assessment before installation.

Will this fit my Torquemaster gearcase?

No. This guard is not listed for Torquemaster gearcases. Confirm your gearcase type as well as your engine model, horsepower, stroke, and year before ordering.

What is the guard made of?

The guard is made from 18-gauge, marine-grade 316 stainless steel with a mirror-polished finish.

What does the reinforced wear tab do?

The reinforced wear tab adds material at the lower portion of the guard to help protect the skeg from grounding, impact, and abrasion.

Is drilling required for installation?

Yes. Installation requires two 1/4-inch holes to be drilled through the skeg. The drill bit, self-locking hardware, and hex key are included.

How does the design help reduce corrosion?

The drain hole allows water to escape instead of remaining trapped inside the guard. Proper cleaning and inspection are still necessary for long-term marine service.

Is this an OEM component?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement guard intended for applications using Mercury/Mariner OEM part number 27211.

What should I confirm before ordering?

Verify the engine brand, exact model, rated horsepower, stroke, production year, gearcase configuration, and the amount of skeg remaining. Do not rely on horsepower alone to confirm fitment.

What are the shipping and return terms?

Shipping, warranty, and returns are subject to the current store policies shown at checkout and in the applicable policy pages.
