Product Details

This Skeg Safe Repair Guard is designed to help protect the skeg of a compatible outboard motor from rocks, underwater debris, and routine wear. It can also be used to reinforce and repair an already damaged skeg when sufficient original skeg material remains for secure installation. The guard is intended for Mercury and Mariner 75–175 HP outboards from 1991 onward, including applicable 2-stroke and 4-stroke models.

Because skeg shape and lower-unit design can vary between engines, compare the product images and the remaining skeg profile with your outboard before ordering.

  • Drill-and-bolt installation does not require welding.
  • Made from 316 marine-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance.
  • Includes a reinforced 3 mm lower wear tab.
  • Drain hole helps reduce water collection and the risk of trapped water freezing.

Engine & Model Compatibility

Use the information below as a fitment guide. Confirm the skeg shape, dimensions, and available mounting area on your specific engine before installation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How much of my original skeg must remain?

At least 5–7.6 cm (2–3 in) of the original skeg should remain so the guard can be positioned and secured properly. The exact requirement also depends on the skeg profile and the condition of the remaining material.

Does installation require welding?

No. This guard is installed by drilling the skeg and securing the guard with the included screws and nuts.

How can I check fitment for my specific engine?

Confirm that your engine is a Mercury or Mariner 75–175 HP outboard within the listed year and stroke coverage, then compare the skeg shape and available mounting area with the product images. Model-year variations may affect fitment.

How can I help prevent corrosion?

The guard uses corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel and includes a drain hole to help limit trapped water. Rinse the outboard with fresh water after use in saltwater and inspect the hardware periodically.

Is this an OEM component?

No. This is an aftermarket skeg guard and is not an OEM component.

How long does shipping take?

Typical transit is 5–15 days. Available shipping methods, delivery estimates, and any applicable costs are shown at checkout.

What is the warranty and return policy?

Warranty coverage and return eligibility are subject to the seller’s current warranty and returns policies. Contact support with your order details if you need assistance.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the product images, skeg profile, dimensions, and remaining skeg material before ordering.
  • Do not install the guard if the remaining skeg is too short, severely weakened, or unsuitable for drilling.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement product, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when the original skeg is substantially damaged or when you are uncertain about fitment.
