Troubleshooting & FAQ
How much of my original skeg do I need for this guard to fit?
You need a minimum of 2-3 inches (5-7.6 cm) of the original skeg remaining for the guard to be installed securely.
Do I need to weld this skeg guard on?
No, welding is not required. Installation is a straightforward drill-and-bolt process using the included mounting hardware.
How do I know if this will fit my specific engine model?
This guard is designed for most Mercury/Mariner 75-175 HP outboard models manufactured from 1991 to the present. The most important factor is the skeg's shape. We recommend comparing your skeg to the product images to ensure a match.
How can I prevent corrosion between the guard and the skeg?
The skeg guard is made from corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel. The built-in drain hole also helps by preventing water from getting trapped. As a best practice, always rinse your outboard with fresh water after use in a saltwater environment.
