What’s in the Box

  • 1 x Water pump impeller

Gaskets, drive keys and other water-pump service parts are not confirmed as included with this impeller listing. Reuse only serviceable components or purchase replacement components separately when required by the engine manufacturer’s service procedure.

Installation Notes

  1. Switch off the engine, disconnect the battery where applicable, and secure the outboard in accordance with the manufacturer’s service instructions.
  2. Remove the lower unit as specified in the service manual for your exact engine.
  3. Remove the water-pump housing and retain the fasteners and components in their original positions.
  4. Remove the old impeller and inspect the drive key, wear plate, cup, housing and seals for damage or excessive wear.
  5. Clean the water-pump components and confirm that the replacement impeller matches the original part in size, vane configuration and keyway arrangement.
  6. Install the drive key and new impeller according to the engine manufacturer’s instructions. Use a suitable lubricant or installation aid only if specified by that procedure.
  7. Reinstall the water-pump housing, plate, gasket and related components in the correct order, replacing damaged or worn service parts.
  8. Reattach the lower unit and tighten all fasteners to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  9. Run the engine using the manufacturer-approved water supply method and confirm a steady tell-tale stream before normal operation.
  10. Stop the engine immediately if the tell-tale stream is weak or absent, or if an overheating warning occurs.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I know if this impeller fits my outboard?

Check the complete engine model, horsepower, year, stroke type and serial range against the application information. Also compare the original impeller and drive-key arrangement with the replacement. A horsepower match alone does not confirm fitment.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include a weak or absent water stream from the tell-tale outlet, an overheating warning, rising engine temperature and, in severe cases, steam or overheating damage. Stop operating the engine if cooling flow is inadequate.

How often should I replace my impeller?

Replacement intervals depend on the engine manufacturer’s service schedule and operating conditions. Inspect the impeller regularly and replace it when it is cracked, hardened, damaged, deformed or worn. More frequent service may be needed in saltwater or sandy and silty conditions.

Is this part difficult to install?

Installation requires access to the water pump and usually removal of the lower unit. A mechanically experienced owner may be able to perform the work with the correct tools and service information. Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with outboard lower-unit service.

Are a gasket and drive key included?

This listing is for one water pump impeller. A gasket, drive key and other service parts are not confirmed as included. Check the package contents and your engine service procedure before beginning installation.

Is this an OEM part?

This is an aftermarket replacement impeller, not a Mercury Marine OEM component. Mercury Marine part numbers are shown only as application and cross-reference information.

Can I use the part number alone to confirm fitment?

Part-number cross-references are useful for identification, but the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke type and serial range should also be confirmed. If the original impeller differs in dimensions or drive-key arrangement, do not install the replacement without further verification.

What if the engine still overheats after installation?

Stop the engine and inspect the impeller installation, drive key, housing, wear plate, water passages, seals and intake screens. Confirm that the pump is receiving an adequate water supply and consult the engine service manual or a qualified technician.

Safety & Important Info

  • Verify the engine model, year, horsepower, stroke type and serial range before ordering.
  • Compare the replacement impeller with the original part before installation.
  • Do not operate the engine without an adequate cooling-water supply.
  • If the tell-tale stream is weak or absent, stop the engine and investigate before continued use.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
  • Professional installation is recommended when lower-unit service is unfamiliar.
