Product Details

This water pump impeller is an aftermarket replacement component for selected Mercury outboards and Mercury 30 Jet, 35 HP, 40 HP, 45 HP, and 50 HP applications. It is installed in the water-pump assembly to maintain cooling-water circulation through the engine.

The impeller replaces Mercury OEM references 47-89983T and 47-89983. Sierra catalog information identifies the corresponding aftermarket impeller reference as 18-3007.

  • Replacement water-pump impeller for selected Mercury applications.
  • Six-blade impeller design with a neoprene rubber body and metal hub insert, as described for this replacement style.
  • Supplied as the impeller component. A key, gaskets, water-pump housing, and other service parts are not included unless specifically shown in the order contents.

Part Number Matrix

These references are included to help compare the impeller with the part removed from your outboard. Always confirm the complete engine model and serial-number range before ordering.

Engine & Model Compatibility

The catalog records below show the impeller reference in the listed Mercury diagrams. Model, horsepower, stroke, and serial-number conditions must be considered together; a part-number match by itself does not confirm fitment for every engine.

What's in the Box

  • 1 x Water pump impeller

An impeller key, gaskets, water-pump housing, and other service parts are not included unless they are expressly listed with your order.

Installation Notes

  1. Confirm the engine model and serial number, then compare the old impeller with the replacement before beginning service.
  2. Disconnect the battery and place the engine in neutral. Follow the manufacturer's safety instructions.
  3. Remove the lower unit and water-pump cover according to the applicable service manual.
  4. Remove the old impeller and inspect the key, pump plate, housing, and mating surfaces for wear or damage.
  5. Install the replacement impeller in the correct direction and position. Replace the key and gaskets separately if required and if they are not reusable.
  6. Reinstall the water-pump cover and lower unit using the manufacturer's torque specifications and alignment procedure.
  7. Run the engine only with an appropriate cooling-water supply. Confirm a strong tell-tale stream and check for overheating or leaks before normal operation.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm fitment?

Read the model and serial number from the transom bracket or engine identification plate. Compare the complete information with the compatibility table and the part number on your original impeller. When the serial range, stroke, or model details do not match, do not assume the part will fit.

What are the signs of a failing water-pump impeller?

Common symptoms include overheating, a weak or missing tell-tale stream, reduced cooling-water flow, and a high-temperature warning where the engine is equipped with one.

How often should an impeller be replaced?

Impellers are routine maintenance parts. Replacement intervals depend on the engine manufacturer's instructions and operating conditions. Inspect the impeller regularly, especially after operation in sandy, silty, or saltwater environments.

Does this listing include a key or gaskets?

No. This listing is for the impeller component only. A key, gaskets, and other water-pump service parts are not included unless separately stated in the order contents.

Is this an OEM Mercury part?

No. This is an aftermarket replacement impeller. Mercury part numbers are shown only as identification and replacement references.

Safety & Important Information

  • Verify the complete engine model, stroke, and serial-number range before ordering.
  • Do not operate an outboard without an adequate cooling-water supply.
  • Inspect the pump housing, plate, key, and gaskets during installation and replace worn parts as necessary.
  • Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with lower-unit or water-pump service.
  • This is an aftermarket replacement, not an OEM component.
