Installation Notes
- Disconnect the battery and shift the outboard into neutral.
- Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the gear oil drain/fill screws to empty the oil.
- Remove the bolts securing the lower unit (gearcase) to the upper housing. There may be a hidden bolt under the trim tab anode.
- Carefully lower and separate the lower unit from the engine.
- Unbolt and remove the old water pump housing to access the impeller.
- Remove the old impeller, key, and gaskets. Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces.
- Install the new lower gasket, impeller key, and then the new impeller. Rotate the driveshaft clockwise while pushing down to seat the blades correctly.
- Install the new upper gasket and re-install the water pump housing, tightening bolts to the manufacturer's torque specification.
- Re-install the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, shift shaft, and water tube align correctly.
- Refill the lower unit with fresh gear oil from the bottom up until it flows from the top vent hole. Re-install both screws.
- Reconnect the battery, start the engine using a water source (flushing muffs), and verify a strong water stream from the tell-tale outlet.
