  3. Carefully lower and separate the gearcase from the upper housing.
  4. Remove the water pump cover to access the existing impeller.

  8. Install the Woodruff key, slide the new impeller onto the shaft, and turn the shaft clockwise as needed to seat the fins correctly in the housing.
  9. Reinstall the water pump housing and tighten the fasteners to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  10. Reattach the lower unit, ensuring proper alignment of the driveshaft and water tube.
  11. Reconnect the battery and test the engine in water. Confirm a strong, steady stream from the tell-tale outlet.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this kit fits my Yamaha engine?

Match your engine’s original water pump part number with the references in the Part Number Matrix and compare the exact model and year with the compatibility table. Because some applications can vary by model or production period, verify the complete model designation and serial information before ordering.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?

Common symptoms include overheating at idle or low speed, a weak or missing stream from the tell-tale outlet, or an engine temperature alarm. A worn impeller may also show cracked, brittle, deformed, or missing fins.

How often should I replace an outboard impeller?

Impeller replacement is a routine preventative-maintenance service. Replacement intervals depend on use and operating conditions; frequent operation in saltwater, silt, or sand can require more frequent service. Follow the engine manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations.

Is everything needed for the water pump service included?

The kit includes the listed replacement water pump components, including the impeller, key, gaskets, plates, cartridge components, O-ring, and fasteners. Standard mechanic’s tools, a torque wrench, and any installation sealant required by the manufacturer are not included.

Is this an OEM component?

No. This listing is for an aftermarket replacement kit intended for the applications and reference numbers listed above. It is not sold as a genuine Yamaha-branded component.

Shipping speed and cost?

Available shipping methods, delivery estimates, and shipping charges are shown at checkout and may vary by destination.

Warranty and returns?

Warranty and return eligibility are governed by the applicable store policies. Contact support with your order details if you need assistance.
